Whatz Up (Live at TC Buzz, mp3) (to download this, right click the link and choose save as..)

One of my favorite things to do is record and perform songs I've written with my children.  This one (by my 9 1/2 year old daughter Lexie) is brand new and this was the first time I played it in a live setting.  In fact, I did not have approval from the writer to play the song until moments before playing it... Her idea was to put together a pattern of different sayings.  It's fun, it's silly, it's Lexie.  Enjoy, Jeff

Some of my very best musician buddies, are playing this weekend for those of you in Central Illinois.

Wiplot opens for vonFrickle at Paulies in Bloomington, IL, Saturday, Feb 25, 10:00.  Wiplot is a very original and organic wacky pop band.   I guess that's how I would describe it.  They have a song called 'Insignificant' that absolutely slays me every time I hear it.  Maybe they will do that one for us this Saturday.  Pretty please Wiplot?  I think they have a bunch of new stuff to share too...

As for vonFrickle, I've described them before as creators of "mind-blowing, experimental sci-fi instrumentals played by ridiculously talented humans in alien suits."  Be prepared for a wild ride.  They recently signed with a local indie record label, oie, so we aren't the only ones that think they are special.

Also worth mentioning, nearly everyone to appear on stage that evening played an important part on our full length 100 Year Picnic album, As Tall As The Sky.  Wiplot (Dean, James, Tony, Fish) played the backing tracks for the extra funky 'Catch This Crazy' and 'I'm In Denial'.  Ganser played drums on  'Mary Faye Tucker', 'Take This Town,' and 'I Started Thinking', and he played drums and moog on 'Heaven,' which we co-wrote.  Dan played an upright bass on 'About Everything But You'  Ken played backwards guitar on 'I Started Thinking' and a beautiful-to-blistering guitar solo for 'Tie's Been Broken.'  Tony provided much feedback on various mixes and played congas on 'Hot Balloon' and so on and so on.

So yeah, these guys are family.  Come check it out.

Dennis is a Dad with a microphone on the California-based 101 Uses For Baby Wipes.  This is a very professional and well-produced internet show, and it was recently featured in USAToday.  In his popular daddycast, Dennis shares the latest parenting news, personal commentary and stories, and great independent music.

Listen in on his episode 127, which features not 1 but 2 songs from the 100 Year Picnic catalog: Mary Faye Tucker and Billy Bob Joe.  Billy Bob Joe, of course, was written by my 7 1/2 year old (at the time) daughter and her 8 year old girlfriend, Katherine.  Now how cool is that?  Dad's making music with their kids for Dad's to play on the internet for other Dad's to hear. Sweet!

Dennis has asked me and the kids to be a guest on a future show, so stay tuned!

Jeremiah from North Dakota featured 'Marilyn County' in Episode 44 on his blog and podcast, Wind From The Plains.  This podcast, subtitled "Colorful has never been so much fun," is a variety show that features all sorts of indie music and conversation.  Thanks again Jeremiah!

Jersey Boy Radio is a podcast telling the story of a teen with a microphone and a mission.  Niko plays cool indie music and talks about being a teenager, and he so kindly played 'Marilyn County' on his Jersey Boy Radio, Episode 14.  Thanks dude!

If you are at all a fan of hip hop, rap, or r&b party music, you absolutely need to check out this new record produced by local Dexter O'Neal.  Many of you may know Dexter as the gifted entertainer and crooner of R&B and Jazz.  In this setting, Dex is at the controls, arranging, engineering, and co-producing an impressive debut of 9 different local artists (including a great song of his own..)

This mix record is a party with a conscience, inspired by the award-winning stage play. On this CD, you'll find several different styles all fused together with thematic lyrics and smart production that blends the modern sounds found on the radio today with occasional hints of motown and blue note.

Hop over to their page on cdbaby to sample some tracks.  My favorite track is 'OK' by Kendall Anders, who proves here to be an exceptionally talented vocalist as well as a great songwriter.  Everyone has their own voice on here though, so check it all out.
