Edwin and I have had the great pleasure of playing on the BIG ROCK stage at Daddio's a couple times in the past month, and it was a blast.  But for our kinda-sorta acoustic, dynamic duo config, this next show is a PERFECT FIT.

Come see us at the COMETOGETHER GROUP ART SHOW, Saturday, January 12, 2008, 8:30 PM, 115 E. Monroe (corner of Monroe and East), Bloomington, IL, 3rd Floor.  This will truly be a unique experience, as this one night only art show will present over 25 different artists and their highly original, eclectic work.

Artist and Art Director Matt Erickson has been putting on these special shows each winter for several years, and I can tell you there will be some interesting, thought-provoking, wild, fun, serious, and wacky art to admire and purchase if you so desire.  This one is located in a 100 year old historical art studio building.  Ed and I will play a 45 minute set starting at 8:30.  Oh, and it's FREE!  It's a celebration of art, music, and community coming together.  Hope to see you there!

Want to hear some GREAT independent music in Central Illinois?

This Friday, December 21, at Daddios, we are participating in a huge benefit featuring some of the best original music in the area, including touring artists Backyard Tire Fire, Chicago Farmer, Wiplot, The Dirty Hands Band, and many more.  It's an honor to be on the same bill with all these guys!  Edwin and I will be doing our 100YP dynamic duo routine, complete with loops, piano, guitars, bass, and vocals.

We go on at 9:35 PM SHARP and play a 30 minute set.  Every group will also be playing a Beatles tune and there will be lots of sitting in with other players and that sort of thing.  Definitely a cool event for a great cause, so I hope to see you there.  Starts at 8:00 PM with some of the BTF boys, then Cody (Chicago Farmer) is soon after so get there early and stay all night.

In the mid 80s and early 90s, there was a great original band from Bloomington called Mojo Stew.  They were an awesome R&B pop funk quintet and everyone will be back in town on Saturday, November 24, doing a reunion show at Daddio's in Bloomington.

It should be quite an event.  As an added plus, the XRAYMEN (former guys from Kool Ray and the Polaroidz) will be opening.

Also making our first appearance as a 100 Year Picnic duo, playing songs from the new record, Edwin and I will start the show off at 8:00.   Edwin will be playing bass and guitar and I will be making loops, playing piano, playing the acoustic guitar, and hopefully singing.  I've trashed my voice in the last week, but I just know it's gonna be back by the 24th...

Come on out and reconnect with some old friends.

Now that's a headline.  This mixing fool is ready to come out of the cave and experience the world again.

This Thursday , September 13, I'll share the stage at NV (107 East Beaufort, Downtown Normal) with other local songwriters.  I'm in the 7:00 - 7:45 set, if you'd like to stop by and hear me do 3 songs off the new record due out later this year.

Later dudes!

I guess I'm on a roll now, sharing the stage with Chris Chambers and Tom Neal at the monthly NV Lounge (107 East Beaufort, Downtown Normal)  Songwriter Night.

For the most part, I've been clunking through some newer songs, including some I've never played in public.  This week I'm told Tommy is bringing his new Bose PA.  So with all of the added clarity, you might get to hear some of the words, that is if I can read my little sticky notes this time.

Come on out for a fun night.  We open the evening at 7:00, but stay for over 10 other local songwriters performing their newest musical creations.

It's still darn cold here in Central Illinois, but come on out to the NV Lounge (107 East Beaufort, Downtown Normal) to hear some great local songwriters on February 8.  For 50 minutes or so I will once again share the stage with my friends Chris Chambers and Tom Neal.  Guess I better work up a few numbers.  I'm guessing we go on somewhere around 8:00 PM.

For those of you here in Central Illinois, come on out to the NV Lounge (107 East Beaufort, Downtown Normal) to hear some great local songwriters.  I don't know who all will be there, but I know my friends Chris Chambers and Tom Neal have asked me to share the stage with them to do a few songs.  Should be fun.  We go on somewhere around 7:00 PM.

For those of you in the area, I'm doing a free, all-ages show on Saturday, May 20, at TC Buzz, Bloomington, next to Best Buy and Parkway Cinemas.

I'm doing a half-hour solo set from 9:00 - 9:30, plus I'll be sittin' in (on drums) with the David Berchtold trio for the rest of the evening, which starts at 7:30.  David is the area's premier acoustic fingerpicker, and TC Buzz is an awesome little coffeehouse with a great sounding room and a spirited audience.  It will be a fun experience, so I hope to see you there.

Speaking of David, check out his recent success with garageband.com.  David's song, Serenity, is in round 3 of the ongoing contest with a 4.5 (out of 5) star rating, which by the way is near to impossible to get from the fickle reviewers at garageband.com.  In the process, he's snagged some impressive awards from the site, including:

  • #25 Best Guitars overall, all-time
  • #8 Best Guitars in Acoustic, all-time
  • #9 Feel Good Track in Acoustic, all-time

Now, would you like to know something even better?  Serenity was chosen by a beautiful bride last weekend to be played live at her wedding as she walked down the isle.  Wow.

Come hear David play this great song, plus many more this Saturday...  If you have any requests for songs for me to sing, send 'em my way.

PS: Did you know David played on the 100 Year Picnic song About Everything But You?  It's one of my favorites on the record, and we are going to do this one together this weekend.

SongwritershowposterCome on out for a free, all-ages show at TC Buzz on Feb 18, 8 PM.  My songwriting friends Chris Chambers and Geoff Beran, along with myself, will be singing our eclectic pop songs.  Join us for a fun evening of great coffee and original music.  Click on the poster for more details.

Also at TC Buzz on Feb 16, I will be playing drums with the Brian Choban Jazz Quintet, another free, all-ages show.

Happy New Year.  It's going to be a good year.  Don't ask me how I know this.  I do know there will be more music in 2006, starting with a couple appearances this month, plus lots of writing, recording, learning, maybe some teaching, more piano, and more live performances...you know, some of the good things in life.

Here are those January dates:

January 14, Saturday, Illinois Brewing Company, 9:30 p.m:  I'll be doing a solo set of 100YP classic indie rock tunes (any requests???), opening for my friends in Los Vivos.  Check out their music on the web, or better yet, come on out and see us.  Did I say it's free?  It is.  And they have very good beer there.  And hardwood floors.

January 19, Thursday, Chicago Style Pizzeria, 7:00 p.m: I'm playing drums with Brian Choban's jazz combo.  Bring the fam out for an excellent pizza buffet and some jazz from the fake book.
